Quick Nautical Equipment and Volvo Penta enter new collaboration towards the boat docking experience
Quick Group and Volvo Penta are collaborating to ensure the full compatibility and integration of Quick Nautical Equipment’s electric proportional maneuvering thrusters with Volvo Penta’s Assisted Docking system. With this new collaboration, the aim is to elevate the docking experience for even more boaters.
Quick Group is an international reference in the nautical equipment sector, operating in over 110 countries and combining technological innovation with a strong heritage of excellence.
Volvo Penta is a leader in marine technology, recognized for its proven track record of industry firsts in marine propulsion and innovative features, such as Assisted Docking – targeted to deliver a unique boating experience.
Among its brands, Quick Nautical Equipment has set industry standards with its reliable and groundbreaking marine products, ranging from anchors and windlasses to electronic controls and thrusters.
Quick Nautical Equipment’s electric proportional thrusters are the result of extensive research, engineered to deliver reliable, high-performance operation in all conditions. Designed and built entirely at Quick Spa headquarters, every component carries the prestige of Made in Italy craftsmanship and their exceptional quality is recognized by leading boatbuilders worldwide.
Over time, to meet the needs of boat owners worldwide and provide customers with a superior boating experience, new integrations have been implemented to enhance precision and control during maneuvers.
And this is where the collaboration with Volvo Penta begins.
Volvo Penta Assisted Docking is a semi-automated boat docking system, which is designed to make close-quarters docking feel calm and controlled. It automates the captain’s intentions, while continously compensating for wind and current. Guided by GPS-based precision to maintain an exact course and heading, it follows the captain’s joystick commands, enabling movement in straight lines, rotating around a fixed position or fine-tuning alignment without drift.
Assisted Docking also gives the captain the ability to stand still - with the release of the joystick - during the docking process, making it easy to prepare for the next move ahead. Since the launch of Assisted Docking in 2021, boaters of all experience levels have benefited from reduced stress, enhanced control, and increased confidence during the docking process.
The integration with Volvo Penta’s Assisted Docking system (for its Aquamatic DPI and Volvo Penta IPS propulsion ranges) is possible via PCS (Proportional Control System) with all Quick Nautical Equipment electric proportional thrusters.
When will the integration be available? The release is planned for year-end 2025.
This collaboration combines Quick Group’s engineering excellence with Volvo Penta’s pioneering Assisted Docking innovation, creating a seamless synergy for the ultimate docking experience.
"We are proud to announce that our electric proportional thruster systems are now fully integrated with Volvo Penta’s Assisted Docking technology — a milestone that redefines precision, control, and confidence at the helm,” confirms Andreas Karlsen, Chief Commercial Officer of Quick Group. “Together, we are not just enhancing control — we are shaping the future of effortless boating."
"The collaboration with Quick Group is an example of how integrating technology can enhance the overall boating experience," says Francesco Giudice, Director of Yacht and Superyacht Sales at Volvo Penta. "We are excited to offer even more boaters an easier docking experience through Volvo Penta Assisted Docking and Quick Nautical Equipment’s electric proportional thruster. This is yet another step to make boating easier and more accessible through features like Assisted Docking, which increase confidence and ensure peace of mind – for boaters of all levels."
For more information, we invite you to get in touch with the Quick Group and Volvo Penta teams at the Cannes Yachting Festival, from September 9 to 14.
